Hello everyone and welcome to my 211th analysis, this time featuring Warmaster Gortak.
Overview: As with all Warmasters, Gortak is a top tier threat. His Base Strength and Life stats are amazing, and he has good Base Speed as well, but what makes Gortak so powerful is his spectacular moveset - that includes an AOE MEGA Stun - and incredible trait; he is immune to Control and gives all of his teammates Stun Immunity, an extremely valuable buff, and he does nuclear damage as an attacker. What's more, this is part of his trait and as such, the Stun Immunity cannot be removed through buff removal! However, even Gortak has his problems, as this monster unlocks most of his great moveset through ranking up, so players who have him at Rank 0 may find him not as powerful as described here. Still, as a Warmaster, Gortak is a monster one should not overlook and definitely not underestimate.
Builds:
Monsters that have access to Group 4 skills will have a slightly different build path. I will list the most viable builds for each Rank since some moves in Group 4 are pivotal to some sets' success. The monster's role will likely remain the same, however, so this won't be exhaustingly long as I won't repeat the same things.
Rank 0:
Moves:
-Tough Fists
-Tectonic Stamp
-Yager Round
-Ridge Maker
Runes: 2 Strength 1 Speed
Mutant Rune options: Strength&Life, Speed&Life
Relics: Armors and Masks
Build Explanation:
Tough Fists is an unresisted Base 45 AOE which gives Gortak a 40% Shield. Tectonic Stamp is useful because it has 0 CD, but it also has a great 60 Base Power with the added effect of Quicksands - this move is Gortak's weapon against CD Activation, one of the few ways to deny him. Yager Round is an immensely useful move that removes all debuffs from all allies and gives Gortak an extra turn. This is not only good to help your teammates, but also to rid Gortak of annoying status effects that might impede his attacking. Lastly, Ridge Maker is his strongest option at this point, with 70 Base Power in addition to aplying Quicksands to all enemies.
2 Strength 1 Speed is the typical attacker spread that maximizes damage. Life Mutations are the only worthy Mutant Runes on him.
Rank 1: Gortak learns "Watch Out Gortak!" at this level, a single target, unresisted Base 80 move that Mega Stuns the target.
Moves:
-Tough Fists
-Watch Out Gortak!
-Yager Round
-Tectonic Stamp
Runes and Mutant Runes are the same as above.
Build Explanation:
Still an attacker, this build forgoes either Ridge Maker for Watch Out Gortak!, his now strongest move with the valuable Mega Stun effect. Tectonic Stamp's 0 CD is valuable, so it is picked over Ridge Maker.
Rank 2: Gortak learns "Full Yager" at this level. This move gives Gortak an extra turn and Damage Mirror, and gives all allies Dark Protection and Control Immunity (Dark Protection halves damage taken by Dark attacks).
Even though the Control Immunity is great, there is just no room for this move in Gortak's moveset at this point. Keep the same build for Rank 1.
Rank 3: Gortak learns "Unstoppable Dwarf" at this level, a Base 35 Earth AOE move that Mega Stuns all enemies.
(Attacker Set)
Moves:
-Unstoppable Dwarf
-Yager Round
-Watch Out Gortak!
-Tectonic Stamp
Runes and Mutant Runes are the same as above.
Build Explanation:
Unstoppable Dwarf, while not too impressive in Base Power, is simply too good to pass up, being an AOE Mega Stun.
(Denier Set)
Moves:
-Unstoppable Dwarf
-Ridge Maker/Yager Shot
-Yager Round
-Watch Out Gortak!
Runes: 3 Speed
Mutant Rune options: Speed&Life
Build Explanation:
With Unstoppable Dwarf, Gortak has all he needs to become a fearsome denier. The interesting thing about Gortak as a denier is that even if he's outsped by the enemy denier, it usually won't bother his team. This is because unless the enemy is using CD Activation or Stamina Drain(this may not even work against him if you have, say, an Energy Mask), they have failed in denying his team, since Yager Round removes all debuffs from your allies, which rids your team of the Control effects that they might have gotten hit by. It's especially efficient because this move gives Gortak an extra turn, meaning you can just use it and then proceed to use Unstoppable Dwarf to completely turn the tables around. If there are Anticipation users to mess around with your plans, simply use Unstoppable Dwarf from the get-go, as the enemy's deny effect is likely not a 2 turn one like Gortak's, which would give your team the time they need to safely spend their one turn being denied. If there are Dodge Area monsters on the enemy team, Watch Out Gortak! can handle them. Yager Shot can be used over Ridge Maker to not give Anticipation monsters a turn but cure your team - its 0 Stamina cost and 0 CD are also very notable.
3 Speed is essential on a denier, and Life Mutations are again, the only viable picks.
Rank 4: Gortak learns "Ground Split" at this level, a Base 45 Earth AOE that applies Quicksands and Sunburn to all enemies.
Builds:
(Attacker Set)
Moves:
-Ground Split
-Watch Out Gortak!
-Unstoppable Dwarf
-Yager Round/Tectonic Stamp
Runes and Mutant Runes are the same as above.
Build Explanation:
Ground Split is Gortak's most powerful AOE move now, and it is so by a huge margin; Sunburn and Quicksands combined drain 25% of all enemies' Lives for 3 turns, and then another 15% for the 4th turn - this on its own, in theory, would leave all enemies at 10% after 4 turns! Unstoppable Dwarf is still too powerful, and Watch Out Gortak! is a definite pick here as his strongest single target attack. The last move depends on whether you value your 0 CD move or your great debuff removal more.
(Denier Set)
Moves:
-Unstoppable Dwarf
-Watch Out Gortak!
-Yager Round
-Ground Split/Yager Shot
Runes and Mutant Runes are the same as above.
Build Explanation:
Same game plan as the previous Denier Set, but Ground Split replaces Ridge Maker because it has much more DOT. This gives Gortak the ability to really pressure the enemy team, but you can still run Yager Shot over it for the same reasons as before.
Teammate Options: Denier Gortak can and will fit in any team.
For Attacker Gortak, unique interactions other than that of normal attackers don't exist.
In general, you can pair him up with more Warmasters to make the team immune to more status effects. For more Teammate options, check out this article.
Countering Warmaster Gortak: Don't try applying Torture effects to him or other effects like Blind, since Yager Round will remove them all. CD Activation is the best bet to deny Gortak. Disabling his trait will render Gortak vulnerable to deny effects: Warmaster Thalassa can exploit this very effectively. Ironically, for Denier Gortak, an enemy Gortak is the biggest counter since he can't apply Mega Stun with him around. An Anticipation monster will make Gortak hesistate about using his Yager moves.
