Does anyone know how to unlock more spaces in the dragonarium? Or are gems the only way? I'm trying to save up to expand the hatchery and I can't really afford to buy gems.

@glacianharpy You have to buy slots for the dragonarium with gems. There is no other way. But wait for an offer for hatchery and dragonarium slots. That will save you a lot.
