What are other people doing with Totem?
Not using him.
In all seriousness, he's an interesting and totally unique monster. The skills I chose are:
Wanga Gift (one ally life +54%)
Mahu Mojo (one ally damage +48%)
Xango Mambo (all enemies life, damage, and stamina -30%)
Rites of Voudoun (all allies damage +16%)
But I can definitely see swapping in Baku Ritual for Rites of Voudoun.
From my experience, the increased life is actually not all that great, because it increases the monster's MAX life, not their actual life. Unless you follow it up immediately with some kind of life shield or can heal him really quickly, if/when an enemy throws a negative status effect on the boosted monster, it's going to kill them WAY faster. 54% faster as a matter of fact. Let's say your monster has 30k life. Burning normally would deal 4,500 damage per turn (15% of total life). If you do the life boost, that monster's max life is now at 46,200 (+54%). Now burning will deal 6,930 damage and your monster is STILL at 30k life; its maximum increased, not its actual.
As far as the damage boost is concerned, +48% technically less than the damage boost effect (+50%). But you do get the benefit of it lasting for 6 turns.
Totem was an interesting experiment, but just doesn't cut it, in my opinion. I do hope SP revisits the idea they were trying to go for with Totem in a future monster.
