Description: While traveling along a foggy and misty land, a mysterious sound calls to you. You stop for a moment and listen—nothing, just silence—and just as you prepare to move on, you hear the sound again. While your instincts warn you to walk away, a part of you is inexplicably drawn toward the sound. If you have ever found yourself in this scenario, then you have most likely heard the calls of the High Kulning Dragon. They are an ancient guardian said to roam the misty lands guiding herds of traveling cattle and assisting those who have lost their way. They ensure that herds travel safely across the misty lands and that the lost find their way back. This involves protecting herds from other beasts that would savagely prey on vulnerable, defenseless creatures. While their songs are usually sung to guide and help, they can also produce ghostly sounds to strike fear and horror against fiendish foes. The High Kulning Dragon is a mystical beast with long grass like hair, rich with unique flowers and plants. They possess unique musical horns on their back that release the most harmonious sounds and sweetest melodies, accompanied by their own unique singing that can often be heard echoing across the vast misty landscape. The High Kulning Dragon often remains hidden from the world and usually dwells in foggy climates, as well as environments with lots of green foliage like woodlands and forests. They also linger along vast open plains, hills, and occasionally mountains, as long as they are veiled in a light mist. They are quite curious and are often seen gliding a few feet above ground and enjoy swirling through the air. While you might be hesitant at first, the High Kulning dragon is a gentle creature and one that you can safely confide in. If you find yourself in the misty lands and are not already lost, you can attract their curiosity with a wind instrument, such as a flute or ocarina. Additionally, they have a unique appetite for carrots and wild ferrets, so have some on hand if you desire to befriend this mystical dragon.

Kulning Definition: By Wikipedia, "Kulning or herding calls is a domestic Scandinavian music form, often used to call livestock down from high mountain pastures where they have been grazing during the day. It is possible that the sound also serves to scare away predators, but this is not the main purpose of the call."
Artist Note: I designed this dragon last month in July. I was inspired to make a Kulning Dragon after watching a video of this woman performing a Kulning song, also known as a Scandinavian herding call. While I’m not sure if I can share the link here, you can search for the video on YouTube. It’s called, “Kulning - Ancient Swedish herding call” by Jonna Jinton. Disclaimer, the video ends a little weird. Nevertheless, the video and singing are mesmerizing. There’s this feeling of something mystical happening during a Kulning call, which is why I decided to make a dragon inspired by this old Scandinavian tradition. Some of you might also draw comparison with Kulning herding calls to the Frozen 2 melody that Elsa keeps hearing throughout the movie. So for the design, I drew a beast-like dragon. Its body fur I decided to be light brown similar to some wild cattle while still being dragon-like. I made its hands slightly cupped together, as I’ve seen some use this as a posture when singing. I gave it long green hair, similar in ways to the woman who sings. Rather than add a flower crown, I made their hair grassy with flowers scattered throughout it. I added musical horns similar to other wind instruments on its back after seeing some images and videos of women also using horns to call in herds. I added some Viking Norse rune symbols on the horns as a small, cool feature. The rune symbols I used mean: Music, Cattle, Divine Protection, Earth Mother, and Safe Travels. I also wanted the dragon to look mystical so I added little glimmers that come out of its horns along with the music. While music is invisible, I had to emphasize that the horns on its back were producing music so I added random music notes too. In its animation, I imagine the dragon swirling up and down singing and releasing music from the horns on its back, and imagine the runes on its horn glow randomly from time to time.
