For as long as I've played DC, there has been a visual indicator that breeding is in process via little floating hearts and the two parent dragons circling around the breeding center. When breeding is complete, a large red heart appears above the breeding center.

When I loaded DC this morning, that had changed for me: All breeding centers had large hearts above them, even though only one was complete. The sanctuary had a yellow heart, and the other two had red hearts. One of the other two had a small "new" symbol attached to the upper left of the large red heart.

I will test when the sanctuary breed is actually complete to verify whether all breedings in the sanctuary get a yellow heart, or if it means that it is a sanctuary-specific breed. If the yellow indicates that the breed can only occur in the sanctuary, then that's awesome (though wouldn't green be more consistent with the dragon-source icon theme?), but if it literally only indicates that the breeding is happening in the sanctuary, it seems confusing and worthless.

Similarly, if all of this comes at the cost of no longer having a big visual indicator that a breeding is complete, I'm very much against the change!

@jgb i like the color change, i don't care for the size or the fact they look like the current complete breeding icon.

Do they think we are blind or something? Why they keep making these super large icons that get in the way? I can see me accidentally sending eggs to the hatchery when I don't want to based on these large sizes.

@nynaevelan I have been filling in empty spots in the hatchery by either breeding Terra or buying Flame eggs. I started doing that after accidently sending eggs to the hatchery.

I usually do that during races, looks like I will need to do it always.

There is painfully little difference between what it looks like when an egg is ready to hatch and what it looks like while it is in progress. The timer bar disappears, and the tiny floating hearts stop popping up.

See below, where the mountain is still 7 hours from the hatchery, but the tree is ready.

When you are able to speed things up by watching a video, the play icon displays in the same way it did before. So that's good at least.

Red is regular breeding, orange is a new breed. Someone said there is a different icon for a new breed but I'm not sure what that is.

I pulled out one of my baby accounts to test the new icons on the mountain. This is what it looks like when a new dragon is breeding, notice the orange icons included:

These animations would be acceptable, I just wish they would fix the large heart when the building is still breeding. I will try to find a baby that is far enough to test on the sanctuary but I don't think any are that advanced and all my advanced babies have all the sanctuary breedables.

I don't have the change in the icon yet & I don't look forward to it because I don't think it's of much use. Just more clutter on the screen. I with they would make all the icons smaller.

@nynaevelan I had the orange icon on the sanctuary and it was an sanctuary VR dragon that I already had, and considering the "new" word appears on a red icon, I'm not fully sure it is orange for new dragons.

I saw people saying in facebook, it was for "legendaries" but it is not for that either, since I've got a VR and had that orange icon.

I don't get it, what they mean with "special"?

Does "special" = "from sanctuary"?

Cauz otherwise I really don't see a Dujur Dragon being "special" at all.

Ps.: I had the yellow heart and it was a Dujur Dragon.

@nynaevelan Yellow/orange does not indicate a new dragon. The "new" sticker does. As in the pics I uploaded.

Per SP on Facebook: Yellow/orange/gold means a "special" dragon. There is no definition yet of special. My experience says that it includes a Legendary dragon, a sanctuary specific dragon, a breeding event island dragon, and I believe any dragon unlocked by the advanced breeding system at a higher rarity tier (e.g. the epics and legendaries in the bottom section).

I haven't yet seen enough to speak conclusively about that, but every time I have bred a sanctuary-specific dragon since the update, it has been a gold heart, and several alliance members noted to me that they also saw a gold heart on breeding event island successes.

@jgb Sorry I disagree with that, not the information itself but the "specialness" I got the yellow/orange icons breeding a Volcano does SP want me to believe that a Volcano is special?? Maybe they mean the large yellow hearts indicates it's special. And FYI in my statements I was referring to the small yellow hearts when the breed is still breeding, the animation itself not the large yellow hearts when it is either still breeding or completed.

My apologies. Reading that again, my tone comes off way worse than intended. And you're right that I did not realize that you were talking about the small hearts. I hadn't even noticed that those are ever different!

I'm currently attributing super-common gold hearts showing up occasionally to bugs in the system. Specifically, in multiple cases my alliance has seen them show up gold by error when in a breed that immediately follows an actual "special" breed. For a couple of the longer ones, we happened to reload and see the gold heart change to a red heart (which to me is further argument that these instances were showing up as bugs).

Once I am confident about the intended pattern, I'll submit a bug report for the ones I think are errors, especially if I can find any sort of a pattern to them.

@jgb Keep us posted, this is once again one of those changes where we have to figure it out on our own what is intended changes and what is bugs. Maybe they do that on purpose to try to keep us from submitting reports.

I have prepared my breedings for the start of the puzzle tomorrow and didn't touch ever since, so I haven't done too many tests and really didn't notice there is a small and a large heart.

Going to pay attention when I start breeding again to notice that

After the last two updates on iOS, proclaiming that you could now know straight away if you had a special egg without having to wait for the hatching, there was nothing different for me.
Ever since you here recommended Wisp+Flame as combination for Apocalypse, I have been rebreeding that combination in my sanctuary. It gave me many jokers, dark fires, patriots and suns, and 3 Abyss. Never anything different.
With my latest rebreeed just now, I got this picture

So that „new“ icon together with a 62-hour breeding gave me hope for an Apocalypse...
But this is the sanctuary now

and the heart is red, not yellow. From what I read here, „special“ dragons get yellow hearts, and some of you got Apocalypse from the yellow heart...so I guess I can bury my hopes again.
I am wondering what else it would be though, as Abyss is not new for me. I may speed the breeding and then provide an update.

@titania Try using AP mode to speed it up, that way it will give you an answer as to what you are getting.

Interestingly, the icon has changed to yellow/golden heart in the meantime.

Hate hate hate the heart icon being there when the breed isn't finished yet. Hate it.
They should indicate a new breed with a little exclamation mark, or different colored tiny floating hearts. And indicate a 'special breed', which I think is just any sanctuary exclusive breed, with tiny golden floating hearts.
Save the big red hearts for completed breeds, as usual.

May SP will do a survey asking how we like the change. They did a survey about the new icon for tracking collection progress so I think they should also do one for this. No one seems to like it. Maybe some players think it is useful. I'm not convinced that it is.

If it worked right (e.g. avoiding all of the times mentioned in my post and in stuff like what Titania where it starts off the color of the previous heart and has to reload to show the right one), and if we could get rid of the giant heart showing up while breeding was still happening, and if the little orange hearts only show up when the big heart is going to be orange...

If all of those things were corrected, I think this could be a positive change. Unnecessary, but positive.

They should also explain this one better. It's not like the breeding change where the secrecy and figuring out a new mechanic kind of sort of adds a little bit to the game. This is confusing the interface without explaining it to your users.

@jgb Exactly. There is no need for secrecy. It's like removing the help menu from a program in order for the users to figure out what to do on their own, it's unnecessary and not fun.

what do you think the light heart means, I got home and checked my game and the heart had changed to light pink!! Also I think the yellow heart means your getting a dragon that is time limited because I trued getting one of the dragons on the breeding event island and the heart was yellow and I ended up getting the dragon.

@no-more-loving it means a breed that is incomplete.

I'm VERY in favor of the lightened effect they are now applying to in-progress hearts. That was the piece we needed when they introduced the first update!
