Hello everyone and welcome to my 157th analysis, this time featuring Samael the Plague Carrier.
Samael has the invaluable resurrection skill-two skills actually-which allows him to bring back a fallen ally to battle. The most important place for this move is Team Wars, in which the number of monsters that are alive at the end of a battle determines how many War Coins you'll get. Along with this, Samael has a skill that gives an ally an extra turn, but this Samael's version is special: it gives the monster Precision, 100% Stamina and Damage Boost, and most importantly, the move itself costs 0 Stamina, which makes it the perfect move against General Thetys and other Stamina drainers. Plague Carrier is the fastest Samael and has 3498 Speed at level 100, putting him above almost all deniers in terms of Speed, and with this you can give the turn to your attacker who can destroy the enemy team or use an AOE deny move of his own (e.g: 2 Strength 1 Speed Harusami). Samael has no special Nemesis trait, but the good ol' Bulwark is still one of the best traits in the entire game to make him strong vs. all deny methods. However, this Samael finds it difficult to hit hard and be fast at the same time, and because of this needs another attacker on his team when he has 3 Speed.
-Necromantic Secrets/Ergotoxicosis(if you can have Unholy Resurrect)
-Unholy Resurrect//Ergotoxicosis/Death Moratorium
Runes: 3 Speed
(Slash next to move means get the move on the right if you don't have access to Group 4 yet)
Before anything, you may have noticed there is no slash next to Samael Warrior even though it's a Group 4 move. There can be no replacement for this move and it's what makes this set in the first place, so you must have the move if you want to use this set, and probably all other sets since it's one of the things that makes Samael so powerful(probably THE thing), so buy him considering you'll have him at at least level 105.
Necromantic Secrets revives an ally with 50% of its Life, which will allow you to save important War Coins, though Ergotoxicosis can be used here as an emergency high damage move if you have access to Unholy Resurrect. Pain Scourge is used to have some method of damage and apply Daze to all enemies, plus removing all positive effects they may have such as General Nishant's Shadow Form. Unholy Resurrect is a more powerful Necromantic Secrets, but if you don't have access to this move, Ergotoxicosis will serve you fine as a high damage move that isn't resisted by Dark monsters, and it applies Bleeding. Death Moratorium is another alternative to Ergotoxicosis that heals instead of dealing damage. Samael Warrior is what makes this set: it gives the target 100% Stamina, Precision and Damage Boost, and most importantly, an extra turn. Unlike other Samaels' extra turn attacks, this one costs 0 Stamina, making it the most powerful one by far. 3 Speed is necessary to quickly use Samael Warrior and make your attacker able to one shot.
-Unholy Resurrection//Necromantic Secrets
Runes: 2 Strength 1 Speed
This set makes Samael an attacker. Pain Scourge is the only AOE you have, and is a very good one to use both for damage and disruptive effects. Ergotoxicosis kills anything that doesn't resist it or has Life runes, and applies Bleeding to the target. Samael Warrior is to be used on Samael himself in this set to boost his damage output, and recharge without losing a turn against Stamina drainers. Unholy Resurrection is still extremely useful to save War Coins or save yourself from sticky situations, and how this move can do it will be explained below. If you don't have access to this, just use Necromantic Secrets. 2 Strength 1 Speed allows Samael to one shot enemies, especially when combined with Samael Warrior.
Teammates: For the first set, an attacker is necessary since it will be the target of Samael Warrior. The attacker should preferably have either a very strong AOE to wipe out all enemies at once, or a decent AOE with a deny effect so that they receive very heavy damage, and will be finished off next turn. The second set works perfectly on its own, but preferably should have a denier with it. An important thing to know is revive mechanics: whenever a monster is resurrected, the turn order resets to start from the fastest, except it starts from the second fastest. This can be used to your advantage to set the turn order in a way which would benefit you.
Countering Samael the Plague Carrier: Jasastur and Krampus are the only Dark deniers faster than Samael, so they are crucial in defeating him. If Rank differences are considered, then defeating Samael becomes an easier task: just use a denier faster than him and hope the deny effect lands, or use a denier that suits other elements. Your performance against Samael will depend entirely on the War rulings, since CD activation is your best bet at defeating this Samael.
