If they did't offer anything new, there would not be any point. They should increase our options of what we can send to friends. I understand the problem of abusing, so I would limit it. Say 5 levels after you can buy a particular element habitat, you can send the common for that element as a gift. That would give us a little more to deal with. They could also do the same for uncommons, but I can see possibly limiting the list.
Now to address the aspect of sales dropping. Is this REALLY an issue? Except for the commons which cost gold, do people regularly buy non-legendary monsters with gems? The only time I ever did, it was a mistake. And, except for the unvbreedable epics, I can't imagine ever spending gems on any of them. So I can't imagine that it really eats into their sales.

You say this as a vet player, how knowledgeable do you think new players are? Especially for breeding events, I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot in fact buying epics, not only that but paying the prices in the shop....

But that is really SP's fault and shame. You have to dig pretty deep to figure any of this out and it is not easy or possible to find in game. I would even venture that some of their marketing is a little shady. For example, you have things go on sale on the shop and they have the little "offer" icon appear over them. They also indicate the percent discount. Other times however, not often, but they do happen, ONLY the "offer" icon appears. How many people have clicked on that and bought something at full price? Especially if they click on the Offer filter first?
