Yes, a great idea. They do this in Creature Quest, which is one of my top games aside from ML.

Dragon city has this feature as well

Gold would be nice, but some grow food to have it to collect as needed in races.

If they introduced that, they'd need to make collecting items for events actually work consistently. You don't want to collect all your gold and food in one go and get none of the gold/food item drops (or maze coins or 72 hour challenge coins) you needed for the event.
