This concept is the creation of an unlockable game feature that increases longevity of game involvement for players and encourages overall spending on currently in place purchase options as described below.
Create an unlockable chest in the chest shop that comes with a countdown timer, analogous to the periodic free chest. The timer on the chest is recommended at 4 weeks. Once activated, the chest would be available in perpetuity. Assuming frequent login, the chest could be collected up to 13 times annually on the four week schedule.
The contents of the chest would be a random gold (50%) or diamond (50%) relic, and a “rank up” token, each time it was opened.
In this pitch the rank up token is a token that could be used to increase the rank of any monster by 1. Most players would reserve the token for the highest rank of hard to rank monsters such as nemesis monsters or VIP monsters. This would make the rank up token desirable, and would also encourage acquiring the resources necessary to first get monsters up to rank 4 (e.g. spending cash/gems through the existing game infrastructure). The chest refresh rate would pace the overall use of tokens and limit the ability for it to imbalance the game or stifle other purchases. It would also encourage continued involvement in ML through a longer period, and would appeal to a segment of the customer base that is discouraged by uncertain, gambling style in app purchases.
The chest would, of course, cost money. I would recommend $99.99 USD. There’s an obvious psychological barrier past $100, and in the existing price structure of social points current digital offerings it’s hard to imagine this type of chest being priced any lower.
I believe most P2P players would spend on this type of package, and many long term F2P players would be tempted by it as well.
