If anyone is having trouble ranking up their dragons, using them in temporary quests (which typically have low level dragons) is a slow but safe way to train in the meantime.

This is because of a hidden mechanic called tiers. For instance, an Apocalypse dragon is tier 5. A Legacy dragon is tier 3 or 4. The Apocalypse dragon is on a higher tier, and is stronger than the Legacy dragon, despite them both being Legendary. Your dragon is probably on a very low tier (3 or 6) or a very high one (5 or 9). Tiers are not shown in-game, and are calculated by master points, health, etc.

@ksherer If it says 0%, don’t bother. Training can be harmful in some cases-Striking is born with Deus crystal, a 2100 power move, and can be “trained” to have pure energy instead, a weaker 1500 move. If it says 0 or a negative number, don’t train!

    My all time favorites are:

    1. Apocalypse. Cool, cute, powerful, breedable, beautiful, nice lore, design and elements, and he’s my most monstrous powerhouse! He’s stronger than a heroic at the same level and he’s not even done empowering!
    2. Little cricket. I remember when we made it, and it was made in honor of one of the most wonderful people on this forum.
    3. High commander. I love how the design incorporates cartoony and realistic styles, and it’s super fun to use!
    4. Wind. I’ve been trying for her for 6 years, and she’s so beautiful, mystical and enchanting that I won’t give up breeding for her.
    5. All the other 4-elements dragons. I’m very close to them, use them and love them all!
Honorable mentions are paradise, nenufar, Legacy, durukuru, golem, lightbeam, depth, explosive, equinox, waterfall, pure dark, crystal, Drace and jellyfish.

I wasn’t here from 2013-15, and my memory of the game from 2012 is very fuzzy. Although that might be because I got my first pokemon game in 2012.
Come to think of it, DC is a lot like pokemon. A small game launched on a platform on its way out that got popular quite unexpectedly, that is now very, very different from what it originally was.
Both started out very humble. Everything was made to fit together, and were built mostly from the ground up. They were trendsetters. How many “raise, collect and fight with dragons on your journey to be the best while keeping them in habitats on islands” games (it’s pretty much a genre at this point) can you think of that are as popular as DC? None. How many mon games are as popular as pokemon? None.
Both original DC and pokemon were something I was barely around for, yet still get nostalgic and wistful whenever people talk about it. They both had a clear vision that they followed and that was pretty much all they were. A while later, they changed. They added new elements/types, new dragons/monsters and new features. They started to do more event stuff. And those, in my opinion, were the haydays. Ones I was not around for, but still get very sentimental looking back on.
But after the haydays, major changes were made. They lost some of the original vision, and slowly became much more corporate. Yeah, the influences of the originals were still present, but if they were made with the current vision in mind, they would be wildly different. Sure, there were some golden bits here and there, but everything seemed so stagnant for a while. Special things were no longer so special, the legendaries felt less legendary. It was losing its soul, and eventually realized it. They tried to praise the originals without realizing what made the originals so great, and yet still kept insisting its new stuff was so much better. All the old and new stuff was integrated so strangely, all the designs and gimmicks that don’t fit together.
But what do you do in this situation: reverse the changes you made, good and bad, to maybe have a second chance, but lose a portion of the audience along the way? Or continue down your road and just stick to what you know, continue doing it, and ride it into the sunset? It’s less of a risk and, hey, you’ll always have SOME die-hard fans willing to splurge no matter what, and the eternally loyal who will stick with the game until the day it dies.
Pokemon did this. They eventually couldn’t keep up with what they were doing. They couldn’t meet the deadlines. The quality started dropping, and now they can’t continue supporting all of what they made. Now 90% of their fanbase is against them, old and new fans alike.
Pokemon has deadlines. They have an anime, a card game, and merchandise that they need to get out on time and they simply can’t sacrifice punctuality for their quality. But DC can. They don’t have these restrictions. They have altered and removed dragons and features a lot, and when they handle it right, they don’t make 90% of their fanbase angry. So much of what they originally stood for is still left intact, and they can go back to it without abandoning all of the good things they’ve made along the way. They’re still able to improve and please, and unlike pokemon which needs to do everything within a timeframe and is the only thing keeping gamefreak going, DC can put much more time and resources into improving.
That’s why I love posts like this. It’s like finding a bunch of old coins on the road, or a vintage toy at goodwill. It’s a reminder of the greatness of the past, but something we can still integrate into our present without sacrificing some of the things we’ve made in the meantime. Something older players can look back on and smile, and something new players can discover.
That’s how I think DC should be. Still remembering how it started and what it is, but still making improvements and new additions while preserving the greatness of the past, leaving behind their mistakes and growing pains. And, unlike pokemon, I think they can accomplish that. I’d go as far as to say they’re even on their way.
Sorry for such a long post. I’m not ranting here, just explaining why I love this thread and how it relates to the current state and history of DC. Also, I’m kind of tired right now and I might have messed up some stuff. TLDR: Posts like these make me realize how much potential DC has to become better, and how, unlike most other games, they can do that.

I couldn’t help but notice that a lot of dragons (coyote, friendship, everest, zhu, grove, heaven and gel barrier, just to name a few) all have some sort of critter holding onto or flying around them that don’t seem to actually be considered other dragons. I wondered why these creatures were there and if they helped in any way.

Familiars are said to be spirits or demons taking the form of an animal, person or entity that assists in magic or daily life in some way. These little creatures surrounding the dragons might be spirits summoned to assist the dragon in combat, magic and general life, much like a familiar. In some media, familiars and spirits are also said to be tied to those who summon them and will weaken or die if they leave their summoner (if they are able to leave them at all.) This helps explain why they seem to be so attached to the dragons, as they would die if they left the dragon’s side.
I think it’s reasonable to say that some dragons summon spirits, fairies, animals and demons to act as companions and enhance their magical abilities. This is giving me tons of ideas for potential dragon designs. I just think it’s a cool idea that these dragons are accompanied by other creatures.

This new format is wonderful! Keys were a massive obstacle that didn’t need to be there, and the rewards were massively generous. A single, no-restrictions path with so many battles and a whole week to finish means we can fight on our time and finish the event without having to constantly check back. And I found out dragons rank up during these fights as well! This is a great way to train lots of dragons at once. The early food rewards are too generous, but other than that, this is a great rescue. Never liked these events, but this one is nice!

I really like the old style of DC. I liked how the animation was clean and slow, and how the dragons were meant to really look like their elements fit them (probably because they were given elements before designs.) Anyways, I have a problem with the glowing auras, complex designs and odd lighting/shading of the newer dragons, as well as minor things like clipping animation (this is very noticeable in the redesigned flame and the grumpy dragon, mostly on their tales and underbellies), dark or bright palette and very bouncy or jittery animation (especially noticeable in Neo-hanzo, High snow and redesigned star) , since it makes the dragons very hard to see or gives me headaches.
Dragons like the butterfly, electric, robot and sea dragons have this certain feel and smoothness to their animation that I can't help but notice is only present in the old dragons. Would it be possible to make some "throwback dragons" in the old style just to experiment? I think it would be easier, too, since there would be fewer parts and less animation, with less complicated effects. I have a few ideas, if you'd like to see them? Thanks!

Unless they are low level, never get rid of your single elementals. You will accidentally breed a lot of pures with the pure hybrids. Sure, you could use them to breed a legend, but pureXpure is a much more reliable method. The reason you can’t add your pure electric to your team may be due to arena restrictions, since a lot of them ban pures. I wouldn’t use a pure electric, though. Breed a 4-elemental at the breeding sanctuary, they’re much stronger and have better coverage.

@maunikaraju Just look for a DC group on facebook and add them as friends. You need 3-6 friends for a building, but you can use them for different buildings at the same time (I can't hire someone to work on the same food farm twice, but I can hire them to work on a food farm and a habitat simultaneously.) You don't need friends for upgrades, I think. I do not use facebook, but I helped a friend who did once.

If you're a free-to-play player, like I am, just adding and removing random friends helps.

Don’t train your pure hybrids, they’re getting easier to beat now. The millennium, however, is a great investment! Once they reach grade 2, the four elementals can kill heroics. Since they’re at the same category as the Legacy, crystal, wind and mirror, and have a wide elemental coverage, they’re arguably the strongest dragons.

Though most would say that the strongest dragons are obviously heroics, an empowered (3 stars or more) four-element dragon (supersonic, promethium, apocalypse, abyss, mirage, forge and millennium) will outperform a heroic dragon at the same level and are much easier to get. Keep leveling up and unlock the breeding sanctuary and you can breed enough to empower them. It will take a long time to breed, recall and empower them but it’s worth it.

A few months ago, somewhere between september and october, I kinda grew sick of the game. Depression and real life began to drain my will to play as well and I took a hiatus. I’ve been bombarded with mobile game ads during my time away from the game which made me think about the low quality of mobile games, and made me return to DC just to see if it was as bad as I remembered.
First off, I instinctively tapped on my breeding structures, and having forgotten what I’d been breeding for, just hit rebreed. 50 hours! A legendary! Probably just another legacy or droconos or something else I already had, but having apathy towards my gem-spending and much curiosity, I decided to speed up anyways.
    0_1579579741448_B43250C5-F7EA-42E9-8E73-88A33DC2C9D2.png
    It was a wind dragon.
When I first started playing 7 years ago, that dragon was my only goal in the game. Breeding nonstop for 2 and a half years straight gave me duplicates of every other legend, but no wind. Now returning after a hiatus, when I cared the absolute least about the game, when I had no clue what I was doing, was when the RNG gods decided that now was the perfect time to give me my greatest draconic desire.
This was the greatest homecoming gift I could have asked for, and after finding the arenas rid of hacked VIPs (and other stupidly high level dragons), the limited-time offers and microtransactions becoming more tolerable, an event that seemed much less punishing than usual and video offers that were actually worth the brain-numbingly stupid mobile game ads, I welcome it with open arms and am happy to return to DC.
There were, however, far fewer dragons added than expected, an some of them, I noticed, were reskins. I also noticed some glaring anatomy problems. I’m starting to become better at art, improving a lot in the past year or so, and I’m considering returning to my previous aspiration of becoming a DC artist. So maybe I’ll be able to become an artist by my next birthday and help bring more dragons to the game.

I’ve gotten duplicates of every breedable legend before and have been breeding for years but got not one wind before this, despite her being the only legend I actually wanted. Cool, what a nice homecoming gift!
But that was not it. The next day, I bred Burglar on my FIRST try.

After posting my lucky breed in the temp breeding thread (I named my Burglar Hamburger and he is making legend arenas that much easier for me) I decided to joke around and said “take my luck, I don’t need it.” DragonLove had caught my luck, successfully breeding a Vicky. For a week, I seemed to have lost that luck.
But yesterday, I bred a Neumon on my first try as well.
    0_1580270722688_27F5A7DD-2709-48A0-BC91-5CB317F83969.jpeg
And today, I watched a few videos to try my luck with the Toy dragon. Got it first attempt as well, and a confirmed 3% chance (roughly 1 in 33)

So, if yall can’t get lucky with breeding, videos or just anything, feel free to make a post here (and tell me if my fortune has infected you.) May the RNG be ever in your favor.

I want to nitpick. Why? Complaining is fun.
First, the item Chinese arch is actually a Japanese Torii, used at the pathways to shrines.
The magnet dragon’s description states magnetism is the most powerful force. Actually, it’s compound interest.
A lot of dragons have golden armor or armor made of crystal. Gold is such a soft metal that a steel blade could pierce it easily and it could potentially be broken with a claw or tooth. The latter is typically much harder, but also will shatter under immense force quite easily. Diamond is prone to breaking this way as well. Games about magical dragons do not need to care about physics as long as the armor looks cool, I guess.
When the islands got revamped, the chains that attached the guardian towers to them as well as the rocks on the ancient portal and tree of life weren’t, making them clip or look out of place.
We still don’t have war, light, primal, pure, ancient or wind crystals.
The sea dragon’s description has been missing a period for almost 8 years. Also, enigmatic’s description refers to it as enigmatical and turbo uses it’s when it should use its.
Striking has been reskinned at least 4 times, and valiant at least 3. This wouldn’t be an issue if their prominent features weren’t so recognizable even after a reskin.
A bunch of first-world problems, I know (except maybe the crystals). Any other very tiny mistakes you guys noticed?

I used to have this issue a lot, but that was a long time ago. Even a 1 dollar purchase will disable ads if they bother you a lot. I’d suggest filling the piggy bank to 120 or getting the marvel island if you’re low on space. If you aren’t keen to make a purchase, that’s fine too. The way I see it, you either pay for the game in ad revenue or pay in direct cash. Paying money just to disable ads isn’t pleasant, but SP has to pay the artists and programmers somehow.
