I'd add Joppers (Epic) and Light Sphinx (UC), who is effective on defense, to Exile's list.
Also, Freettle and Tarzape are effective Rare monsters that can be bred and ranked up in less than an hour. These can be used until your Mudflow or Nanukk (my two favorites) is ready.
@karryt Well said.
The "skipping" bug is the easiest reproduce as it happens 100% of the time in any type of battle. For example, the turn bar indicates that the the next three turns belong to monsters A, B, and C respectively. If monster A dies on its turn (e.g., DOT brings its HP down to zero or it nukes itself and dies when possessed), then monster B will always be skipped and monster C will be the next monster to be given its turn. I exploit this all the time in wars, but it should be fixed.
I am not sure that this is related to the slow/haste issue, but my guess is that it is somehow.
@Carlos Thank you for your post. SP has definitely increased its correspondences and transparency with the player community. It is very much appreciated.
Some excellent points have been made in this thread (esp. by Asterix and MarshallTheBeef). I’d like to add my perspective.
Adding a new immunity to Megastun is not the best solution to the meta game problems within the ML game play. The problems with this (Megastun landing on stun immune monsters, which was introduced with Reptie) and other meta gaming issues are that these issues are bug/errors that were introduced into the game that should have been quickly address (or not introduced) and certainly not allowed be propagated to other monsters. Players have taken advantage of these bugs in game meta in terms of real money spent and therein lies the issue with any potential fixes.
I believe that the two biggest meta gaming issues in the game are:
- Traits not working/coded properly with all skills (e.g., megastun landing on stun immune monsters)
- Skipping the next monster when a monster dies on its turn
Regarding the first issue, effects like megastun, corrupted, hacked, stamina drain (Thetys), and cool down activated (Timerion) are broken meta b/c the counters to these skills, traits, are not implemented consistently. For example, as addressed by some above, megastun should never have affected stun immune monsters and corrupted and hacked should never have affected possession immune monsters. Also (and I believe this is an even bigger issue), some skills (e.g., stamina drain and cool down activated) not being affected by status-effects-resistant traits (e.g., tough, bulwark, harden) and thus landing 100% of the time, break the game meta or at the very least decrease the variety of viable monsters/combo in the game.
There is a reason everyone uses Brontes, Timerion, and Gen Thetys b/c their skills break the game meta, which is then exploited (rightly so) by the players. Yes, there are currently some ways in game to mitigate this (e.g., Cavenfish can be effective against Gen. T and Metalhead with Shouting for Vengeance against Timerion), but these are fairly limited and thus narrowing to the number of viable combination to counter these broken meta monsters. A better solution is to fix these issues, which will increased the number of viable monster options and increase the variety of gameplay. I do not believe that the best way to address this is to add new traits such as megastun immunity. What’s next? Adding an ultrastun skill/immunity followed by ULTRA-MEGA stun, etc.
A big issue with fixing these meta problems in this manner was addressed quiet well by Asterix above. SP must offer some form of compensation or replacement if these meta flaws are addressed. The easiest example is Brontes (Hiroim, Glitch, and Hackster also come to mind) as he becomes a very mediocre monster if the stun trait starts to (as it always should have) resist megastun. Yes, he still is able to megastun, but he would not be near as popular without this meta issue. One idea was mentioned above, SP could offer compensation in the form of replace your level X Brontes (or other affected monster) with a different a level X monster. SP could limit this to certain options (e.g., a new monster like Bo Tai would not be available as a replacement nor would VIPs). In the case of Hiroim, maybe a replacement VIP could be offered. This also needs to be a one time thing with additional care/processes put into place to ensure these types of meta issues do not enter the game again. Note: I have Brontes, Hiroim, Gen. T, and Timerion all at level 130 so this affects me directly.
Regarding the second issue, this just needs to be fixed. It is an obvious bug that players have worked around and/or exploited, but it is a bit ridiculous that it has not been addressed. It also manifests when a monster with a haste or slow effect wears off when using an extra turn move. That monster is completely removed from the turn bar. Also, when slow or haste wears off (when not using an extra turn move), the monster is placed back into its normal order, which often results in either an immediate turn (when slowed) or moving way back in the turn order (when hasted).
One other meta issue, but less important, is the skills that are obviously out of sorts with others. For example, Momny’s Don’t be Late and The Ringer’s Death Knell. Its seems fairly obvious that a wrong value(s) was entered for these skills (in those particular cases, the damage value is obviously wrong).
These are just suggestions, but I do believe that fixing or at least improving (introducing a megastun trait is better than doing nothing but it is sub-optimal) these obvious meta problems will create vastly superior game play.
One more note, the idea above to make the Attuned trait resistant to stamina drain or decrease its percentage is an excellent idea.
