    I guess I'm just looking from the viewpoint of a lower team with higher ranked teams jumping into a lower ranked group.
    But what to do within each group, a 2nd place team with 14+ laps needs some recognition for that achievement. So how about the rewards for each place also varying according to laps completed. This would encourage every team to continue racing and not just sit at 4 laps if they don't think they can catch 1st place.

    I've an idea, how about race rewards vary, depending on the initial level of the race group. Lower level groups are competing for 1 set of rewards, higher level groups have bigger rewards. That way if teams create a new team for lower ranking or jump to a lower level team (by kicking out all the existing lower level players) then they are racing for lower rewards. Let them decide what an 'easy' race is worth to them. Plus easily implemented within current format. I have a low level team, players lvl 20-30, who would be happy to try to earn an unranked race monster, but when competing against teams all lvl 100+ what's the point. If all those lvl 100+ players want a ranked race monster then they can be in a higher ranking group. Could divide it so lowest level get race monster, then chance to win rank 1, 2, 3, or possibly higher.

    No joining a team during the race would be great but not gonna happen. Enabling the groups to stay fairer match would encourage more gem spending for a lot of teams as they battle for 1st place. Once you get a team in your group that has an unfair advantage there's no point in racing anymore and that higher lvl team doesn't have any competition to race against, so no incentive to spend gems either except to stay comfortably in the lead.

    @Kaiju would think it would be when the teams have been matched, could leave a reasonable threshold. For example this would eliminate scenarios such as if all the teams in your group originally have total mp around 40-80k then one team replaces most members and their mp goes up to over 250mp.

    How to make team races fair? One aspect is your team has been matched with other hopefully similar teams but then 1 team replacers most of their members with new much highest level ones. Now there is little point on racing or spending gems except to complete 4 laps. Teams replacing inactives or filling places after members leaving is inevitable, but replacements need to be consistent with level of the team. I would propose a system where say team mp had a maximum allowed value and/or a cap on level or mp for each member of team. Matching isn't always fair and there will always be teams that are up against the best, but this could make races a lot more fun and interesting for a lot of teams.
