@nynaevelan So just to be sure I understood you properly - you bred only Notus, not the other two?

Exactly!! It seems you only have to breed one of the three, as long as you have the other three on your islands. Rather than having to re-breed all three of them. Hatching the three from storage doesn't work, or at least it didn't work for any of my gaming accounts.

FYI this is the same thing that I did for the last mini-colliection.

Thanks so much, this is really useful info! I thought I had no chance at it since I don’t have Sword Wielder, but if I only need to breed one (I do already have all three) maybe I can get a Eurus out in time...

@bettina-löffler The simplest solution would be to just close down the global chat. If SP can't devote the necessary resources to moderate it properly (which would be no shame on them, it takes quite a lot of $$$ to do that right) that's really the best choice.

@vikas-nambiar Well, @Nynaevelan says that she didn't have to hatch a new Child Forever. Which means either that (a) the requirements vary by person, or (b) it glitched for me and I should have it now. I'd lay odds on (b), that's hardly unheard of but I'm not aware of any documented example of (a). Will see what happens after it hatches tomorrow morning - if I don't get the chest I'll submit a Support ticket then.

Which just stresses the importance of clear communication of the requirements - to let us know when a glitch happens! It's not like they're rare.

@vikas-nambiar You can only get one- By getting Child Forever from the maze and breeding Mothers Day. It will contain 2 Common, 2 Very Rare and 2 Legendary Trade Essences. That’s what someone else got from that chest.

For reference you actually have to finish HATCHING them - even if you already had them - to get the chest. I’ve bred and hatched Mother’s Day (new to me), gotten the Child Forever egg (already had one hatched so this will be a dupe), put it in the Hatchery, and still no chest. So it has to be when it hatches that I’ll get it.

Most stringent collection requirement they’ve had in a while. Why can’t they just TELL us exactly what we have to do each time?

posted in Game Events read more
  • Scott Clark

@vikas-nambiar Well, it costs 24,364,793. One farm doing two Producer per day (not even Super) produces 50k/day, which with 14 farms is 700k/day. So around a month. But L30 is only about a day and a half.

Which means it’s not practical to get many to 40, but it shouldn’t be. That should be special. You can get pretty much as many as you need to a high enough level to be combat-capable, and your few best to L40.

Then when you scale up enough to be doing Super Producer all the time, you end up dividing those numbers by three.

Which really pisses me off because I gave up getting anything in the Fast Food event just to get the keys for this. If I do not end finishing the medium and hard paths this will officially be my last Rescue.

Given that the current Keys Quest ends three days before the Rescue does, my bet is that there'll be another one after it. Which is presumably where the extras will be provided.

Put slightly differently than @Bettina-Löffler, it costs you more net coins if you use COINS to buy out a fight. It can still be worthwhile if you're coming down to the wire at the end of the event, but the counts this time don't suggest that's likely to happen.

Also FTR, the current Coins Quest yields up to 600 coins, so Dark Commander still requires a 1400 coin pack ($3 on sale) even with that.

19/2 cooling down now. I can get the Heroic Jokers for sure, it just may cost a bit (max 10) if I get a bad spin and/or am less than perfectly efficient today.

I was less than perfectly efficient (alternatively, they really dropped the rate on Terra hatches for 19/5 - I was doing something close to 100 hatches per flower for the entire node, instead of the typical 10:1) so it did cost 10, but no progress on 20/1 was indeed where I ended. It's nice when a plan comes together. Nobody else in my group made 15, and two barely made 5 at the very end, probably spending substantial gems to do so. (Which, I should note, pretty well puts paid to the theory that you are grouped with people who raced comparably to you the last time around.)

And I do count 10 gems for 20 Heroic Jokers as worthwhile, especially since orb trading with my alliance mates means I'm getting FOUR Heroics out of this race - Eternal, Tidal, Comet, Fenrir - at a cost of 60 Jokers. Plus more progress on Octane, which started as 50/100 and looks fair to finish around 70/100 when all's said and done.

I'm revising my opinion on Essence a bit based on that - it's really turning out to be a big factor for Heroics in active alliances, making lap 17 a MAJOR milestone. Still doesn't work well for anything BUT Heroics, but it's doing more OK on that front.

@scott-clark really? I prefer the $13.99 pack over the piggy. Hmm I will have to look at the breakdown again.

Edit: you're right. I might have to switch up.

Yep. Strictly speaking, if you do the math, only the discounted Deluxe Chest at $50 for 1700 is a better gems-per-dollar than a full Piggy Bank (30:1). And while YMMV, I ain't spending $50 at a time for a casual game.

The Piggy Bank is a bit deceptive, though, since spending gems fills it. Which doesn't change the cost-effectiveness calculation, but does mean that it fills up more rapidly than one would expect without that effect. So that if you're buying it whenever it's full, you're spending more money than you'd project based on fill rates when you aren't buying it ever.

Effective design on SP's part there, subtly encouraging us to spend more money. Especially coupled with the fact that, if you do actions which would fill it when it's already full, you feel like you're losing out. Game designers these days really do have a very solid grasp on the psychology behind microtransactions. On a purely scientific/pragmatic level, it's very impressive indeed how efficiently they monetize things.

It's almost always cheaper to just "buyout" once the long last fight is the only thing left to do, I've found.

Yeah, that's pretty much always been true. But it used to also be a big help to knock an hour off of each intermediate fight cooldown. I'm on lap 12 now, and it's already up to 6 gems/hour. Which is just crazy talk.

Yeah, Terras and 30-second food have always taken perseverance. I haven't noticed a real difference from prior races, where they both averaged on the order of 10%.

I'm really feeling the boost in fight speedup costs. Those nodes are now major roadblocks rather than manageable gem sinks. Only the final fight is worth speeding up now IMO (costs 3). Generally my benchmark is that 1 gem to save 1 hour is good, 2 gems to save 1 hour I need a good reason, 3 gems per hour is only acceptable at high lap counts, more than that I don't do. Fight speedups are now in the "don't do" category, which ends up adding a LOT of hours.

posted in Game Events read more
  • Scott Clark

Annoying that they've boosted the gem costs for accelerating fights (already 4/hr on lap 5). If the later laps have multi-hour wait times as previously, it'll get REALLY expensive to do any of those nodes in less than a full day.

The increased rewards from the spin are nice though, skipped the entire 4 hour wait time at 4/5 with mine. Before you kind of had to assume it'd only be +1, now it's reasonable to try for more.

We need always a bit luck with the dice. If we have to go back and forth several times in the top region, it can be difficult.

There aren't any formations that could cause that this time around, though - all the catapults, and Arctic itself, are at the end of corridors so you don't need an exact spin to land on them.

They also seem to have cut off the Freebies, when I'm pretty sure the timer on that prize said it was going through today till the end of the event. Which pretty much nixes my chances at Bunny.

FYI, it currently looks to me like the probability of any given chest having a bunny decreases each time you get a bunny from a chest with the same cost, and eventually reaches 0.

posted in Game Events read more
  • Scott Clark

There is something decidedly unusual going on with these chests. Their contents are NOT fully reproducible using airplane mode. Except that if you follow the same path, you do get the same results. And it's not a predetermined sequence like the Tower spins, either. For example, if I start from the space 1W of the first Sweetest, go 1N (bunny), then 1W (200k gold). Whereas I can alternatively go back 1W (already claimed), then 1N (bunny, even though that chest was 200k on the last route!), then 1E (bunny). Or 1N (bunny) 1E (bunny) 1E (bunny) - three bunnies in a row instead of one being gold.

I haven't sussed out exactly what the variables are - for a while I thought it might be the direction you entered the square from, but I ended up disproving that. But I rather suspect that if you take each step in airplane mode, then

    a) If it was a bunny, turn off airplane mode and do something else (e.g. Ancient World and back) to save. Turn airplane mode back on, take another step.
    b) If it wasn't, quit, turn off airplane mode, restart, and pick a different square to buy next.

you can likely get every single chest you open to be a bunny. Which would make even 8 bunnies for 600 a bad deal, that's 75 per bunny and there are oodles of squares costing 70 or less.

Will update as I do more tests and learn more.

Update: OK, turns out to not be every chest. You can get most, but you do end up sometimes at a point where no chest you can pick turns out to be a bunny. Ended up at 10 bunnies from 11 moves after the first collection interval.

Further update: Yeah, seriously weird. I've currently gotten into a state where every chest of the same cost gives the same result, which wasn't the case before. There's obviously some rule here - it is a computer program after all - but I can't think what it might be!

I already have Pigheaded which is the first-row option, and it'll disappear in 120 moves anyway, so no point spending moves there either. And of course the third row is pathetically irrelevant.

Guess I'm waiting for the Rescue to expire, then focusing on the second row until Pigheaded expires (look how little essence those chests have, as high-end prizes! SP seriously doesn't want us to do any actual trading, apparently), and then I'll see if the L Chibi is reachable. I'm guessing no.

I do like that they massively boosted the return on the breed/hatch tasks, AND paired them up so the ones you just bred are the ones you need to hatch next. If only they hadn't then made them extra-hard. IMO this setup with the previous scaling on task difficulty would've been ideal.

I've noticed that, as long as your sixth dragon isn't crittable by any of the enemies, they'll actually tend to focus their fire on the Relics. Which is good for two reasons - your big hitter will live longer, and get to make an increasing share of your attacks.

Since making that tactical tweak, I haven't had to wait more than one cool down on any of the nodes. Use my best Heroics on the Relic nodes, swamp the others with waves of weaker dragons. Mostly I've just been key-limited. Will have to see how bad the second half of the Hard track is.

Edit: That fight, I should add, is the single worst point about any event I have seen since I started playing (shortly before the High Celestial race). You are FORCED to take C/R/VR/E into a fight with 6 L/H, all over L40, and the two other decent dragons you might bring act LAST. The weakest have to act first, and even if you somehow managed to get Clarity up to 5 stars and L70, it's still just a Common. You don't even have any choice of elements.

So you have two meaningful fighting dragons, at best, and the entire enemy team gets to hammer on them before they get to act. And you have to wait 4h between gradual grinding-down attempts, because even if you had the best Heroics possible, they'd definitely lose that. Repeatedly. And you can't then try again until your Relics are back up.

WTF was SP thinking?!?!?! This event has now officially earned negative 6 stars from me.

@nynaevelan The previous one wasn't as bad. You just had to focus on the Atlantis path and that got the job done wrt keys. The battle structure still didn't work - like I've noted before, auto-selecting a couple dozen times to gradually wear down one fight is just plain tedious - but the keys did OK.

This time, the keys don't work in any reasonable way without spending lots of money. The battles are no better than previously. And the restriction of doing the paths in order, instead of in parallel, makes the effective duration of the event MUCH shorter.

The one and only reason I'm still trying to get it done is the fact that it seems like opportunities to get Kenny will be really, really rare. I don't even want to know how many other new dragons on the Castle Island I'm giving up for the mere chance at that one.

I can confirm that the Easy path can be completed with just Clarity and Reason (actually now my memory's nagging at me that maybe there was a Virtue fight?). The node just before the boss requires both, the boss itself does not (and it's not hard, he didn't even manage to kill one of my A-team). You can skip the three key chests along the top of the Ice & Fire Island, as long as you get the rest of the pre-Icewind keys (and enough from quests/freebies - I had 5 extra).

@DragonLove - Make sure you save your best dragons for the few fights which need the Relics. On other fights, use dragons just strong enough to win, even taking a couple of rounds to do so. Then go all-out on those specific fights. But don't sweat the cooldowns too much, they're irrelevant in comparison to the key collection times!

Update - the second door on the Medium path, to be completed from Fire & Ice, will need the key chest just beyond Icewind at least. It may require the top-row chest of the same color too. That looks readily doable with the available free coins, but I wouldn't count on picking up any more keys beyond that.
